Plans in: Replacement Apartment Block in East Dulwich

John Smart Architects have drawn up a scheme for a nine-flat apartment block to replace a post-war infill development of four flats.

The development, brought forward by Hiruko LLP, will see nine two-bed flats replace the existing four two-bedders on site. The existing block of flats has the appearance of a pair of semi-detached houses, which like much post-war infill are small than their neighbours. This particular set are in rather unattractive pebbledash:

Replacing them will be a four storey block, with one of the storeys at a lower ground level and another in the roof space, allowing the block to be no higher than its three storey neighbour.

The proposed replacement helps solidify the streetscape by completing the terrace to the right. The design is contemporary, yet pays respect to the neighbouring Victorian housing stock in terms of materiality and scale.
