CYD Projects have submitted plans to erect a two storey roof extension on blocks of flats near Surrey Quays, to provide 44 additional social rented apartments, adding to the 68 already below them.
The designs, from MDR Associates, will also reclad the existing two apartment blocks on Chilton Grove. It’s not clear if the project is ultimately for the council or a housing association, as the developer is a construction company based in Surbiton.
The existing blocks are a mixture of brick and panels, some of which has been weather damaged. The plans to add additional units on top of existing housing stock marks a change from the comprehensive estate redevelopment that has been common in Southwark.
Various design ideas were proposed before the ultimate colour scheme was chosen, including timber and aluminium, as well as various coloured panels.
