Plans have been lodged to convert Leverton Hall, located between Great Warley and the Brook Street suburb of Brentwood into 21 new homes.

The site is a late 18th-Century Grade II listed manor house, which was used as a prison in the post-war years before being converted into a secure pupil referral unit in 1997, a use that ceased in 2014. The entire site is within the Green Belt, and is located within easy driving distance of the M25.

The proposals will see eight new detached houses built around a courtyard which will site of the site of the modern extensions to the building.The detached houses are all large – a mixture of four, five and six bedroom properties.

The listed manor house will then be converted into thirteen apartments, ten of which will have two bedrooms, and the final three will be family sized three bed flats. All the properties in the scheme are proposed to be for the private market.

The entire site measures 6.6 hectares as is completely surrounded by open countryside, with the nearest property a detached farm at the end of the entrance road. The nearest corner shop is a twenty-minute walk along country lanes.

Audley Homes have submitted plans to convert the Old Pump Works in Great Warley, south of Brentwood into residential dwellings, along with building new modern green-roofed houses on vacant land in the site.

The designs, from APS Design Associates, include a distinctive terrace of waved-turf-roof houses. The existing heritage buildings will be converted from their existing office usage into a mixture of flats and houses.

The site sits on the edge of a small village, not far from Junction 29 of the M25.

Plans have been submitted to add a four-storey extension to Airways House at 2 Langley Road in Slough to contain six one-bedroom flats. The plans, drawn up by Danks Badnell Architects of Windsor, will see the existing building extended in a style consistent with the design of the original building.

Mayset Limited have submitted the plans, which will see an extension built to the south of the original building, furthest from the Langley Road and close to the boundary with Starwood Court. Airways House has already been converted to residential use under permitted development rights.

Plans have been submitted to convert part of the basement and ground floor, plus the first, second and third floors of 61-62 Western Road, Brighton, from retail to residential. The conversion will create nine apartments which will be accessed from a new entrance on Stone Street.

The designs put together by Liam Russell Architects of Brighton, will see the building – which also has elevations onto Castle Street – modified including patching up the render, and replacement of the existing windows to ones more sympathetic to the original building.

Three of the flats will have a single bedroom, one will have three bedrooms and the remaining five will be two-bed apartments. The building previously housed a HMV but has since gone through various short-lived retail incarnation including Brand Centre, Furniture Clearance, Madhouse Clearance and more recently as a Factory Outlet.

Plans have been lodged to replace the former Texaco petrol station on Hove’s Kingsway and Victoria Terrace with a nine storey building containing 55 apartments, designed by LCE Architects.

The application has been jointly submitted by residential developer Rocco Homes and the Co-Op supermarket, presumably indicating that the scheme will feature a new Co-Op in the 375sqm retail floorspace.

In addition to the new build, the application also plans to convert the upper floors of the Alibi pub into 4 flats, with the ground floor being either a pub or a retail unit. This brings the total number of flats up to 59, all of which are currently proposed as private units.

The ground and first floor offices of 34-36 Carey Street will be converted to three one bed flats and four studios, with the application being made under the prior approval regime which allows council very limited scope to object.

The building that is proposed for conversion has a residential appearance, on a residential street and therefore appears appropriate for conversion.

Reading Council has submitted plans for a development of 57 new homes on largely vacant land off Conwy Close in Tilehurst.

The designs by LDA Design from Oxford include 34 flats and 23 houses across the just greater than one hectare site.tilehurst-conwy-close-0

The entire scheme is low rise, with only a single building in the centre of the site making it up to four storeys. The rest being two or three storeys.

The houses are modern twist on a traditional brick and sloped roof design, making a refreshing change from the neo-Cottage style utilised by mass housebuilders.

The apartment blocks however are more standard fare, but at least will provide new affordable homes to the growing commuter town.

A scheme for the development of a seventeen storey tower containing 188 flats has been submitted to Brighton and Hove council.

The new building will replace commercial storage buildings located very close to Hove station.

In addition to the apartments, 1,988sqm offices and 266sqm retail will be provided. Parking will be in the basement.

The scheme is known as Hove Gardens, and is designed by LCE Architects, based in nearby Brighton. They’ve designed the scheme for developer Matsim Property.

In addition to the tower, other buildings will be constructed and constitute an entire urban block with different materiality in each section, allowing the entire block to appear part of a more natural rather than comprehensive development. Internally a large courtyard offering amenity space to residents will be created.

Plans have been submitted for a three storey block of flats contianing nine one-bedroom flats and five two-bed apartments.

Zyntax Chartered Architects designed the scheme, which has been submitted in outline only. The flats will be behind a set of semi-detached and detached houses on Yew Tree Road in Slough, and likely accessed off Harewood Place.

So far no designs have appeared on Slough’s planning portal or on the website of the architect, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
