Six application for extensions – both upwards and outwards, sometimes combining the two – were received on the desks of Apartology this week. They ranged from office blocks, to public houses, to suburban semis. Here’s the rundown:

3 Additional Storeys for 6 Flats in Harrow

Plans in to add an additional three storeys to a small block in Harrow’s town centre on Headstone Road, bringing it closer in height to neighbouring properties – but only adding an additional six flats. Drawing at the top of the post is also of this scheme.

8 Flats Above & Behind a Wallington Pub

Extensions planned to a trendy Woodcote Road pub mainly to the rear, but also above, in order to provide eight flats, half of which are two bed apartments.

8 Flats in Roof Extension to Block of Flats in Earls Court

Plans have been submitted to extend the roof of a post-war block of flats on Cromwell Road to provide eight extra flats, many of them studios.

6 Additional Flats above Converted Offices in New Malden

Plans have been lodged to add an additional floor to a recently converted office to add six additional flats to the existing nineteen in the currently three-storey building.

10 Flats in HMO Conversion & Extension in Eltham

Plans have been lodged to convert a 21 room HMO into 10 flats, by way of a two storey extension, on Southwood Road in Eltham.

 

7 Flat Extension Scheme on a Semi Detached House in Golders Green

Plans are in for a four storey rear extension to a semi-detached house in Golders Green’s Finchley Road to convert the property from four flats into seven.

5 Houses near Barking Road in East Ham

Plans have been lodged by Buckthorn Ltd for an eight storey residential led scheme in Earls Court to provide 38 flats and 697sqm office space. The site, which will be known as Cluny Mews, sits between the West Cromwell Road and Philbeach Gardens, is immediately behind the Qatar Airways building.

The scheme has been drawn up by figure/ground architects, will replace the existing 2 storey office building which is owned by Clear Channel, who also operate the billboards that currently block the view of the site from the West Cromwell Road. The new building will not only provide 38 apartments, but also more office space than the current building supports.

Given the traffic noise from the Great West Road, and the presence of the billboards which will be maintained, the plans are for an access corridor to front this elevation clad in ghosted glass blocks, with only secondary windows fronting this elevation. Thus all flats will be dual aspect, but with only secondary rooms such as bathrooms fronting the West Cromwell Road side of the building.

Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust have submitted plans to construct a five storey building on the site of Chelsea Farmers Market on Sydney Street.

The building will have a total of 59 flats, in addition to retail units and also consist of two subterranean levels. 30 car parking spaces and 142 cycle stands will be included.

All of the 59 flats are proposed as private accomodation, with 18 one bed units, 15 two bed flats, 22 three bed apartments and four larger units with at least four bedrooms a piece. Presumably there will be a hefty off-site affordable payment if this gets approval.

The total retail space will decline, but only slightly – from 1507 sqm to 1455 sqm. More significantly the character will change – gone will be the stalls, stands and wooden sheds of the farmers market. These have been here since the 1980s, but were always intended as temporary.

The scheme, designed by PDP LDN, calls for the creation of a semi-open courtyard and a retail square, with the buildings wrapped around these new spaces.
